Hey all,
So I've heard that keeping a physical dream journal is a good idea in various places, books, Reddit, Daniel's channel, you name it. I've never gotten a clear answer as to why this is important, however.
For context, I'm blind. Physical dream journals are meaningless to me, both because they don't look special and because you can't write braille in books without first removing pages, which is... rather messy. Also braille isn't my preferred medium regardless.
For the time being I've been writing my dream journal in a text file on my computer, and my plan has been to also use a voice recorder if I wake up in the middle of the night. That last part hasn't exactly worked yet because brain fog, but once my sleep cycle settles down a bit I can probably start doing WBTB more.
Despite that, my dream recall does seem to be improving slightly, I've been doing this for a little over a week now. I am, however, curious to hear your thoughts / suggestions.
Cheers.
One of the classic reasons for keeping a dream journal is to look for reaccuring dream signs. (I drempt I was at the beach). You can then use this to plant the suggestion that The next time I find myself at beach, I will remember to notice that I’m dreaming. Now you have planted an intention. Intentions have a power of their own, making it easier to recognize the dream state the next time you find yourself at the beach. Also, The dream sign pattern would be revealed whether you wrote in braille, cursive, or any other style.
Sweet Dreams!
Generally a physical journal helps to engage the mind in a way that digital just doesn't seem to achieve. However, with your unique circumstances you're right to think that it would be quite unnecessary and would just create work with little or less benefit. The best approach is to use what works for you, what you can be most engaged with, and something which you can return to regularly to explore.
As with most things lucid dream related, we have to take the basic principles and make them work for our individual circumstances.
Good luck and sweet dreams!
